What is NAATI CCL?
The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd., also known as NAATI, is responsible for examining and accrediting interpreters and translators in Australia. The CCL (Credentialed Community Language) test is a certification that judges your language skills at the community stage.
NAATI Credentials Community Language (CCL) Test determines a candidate’s capability to communicate the gist of dialogue from English to a Language Other Than English (LOTE). On successfully passing the test, applicants are awarded five points toward the General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa.
The CCL test results are published within 8 weeks of the test date, and are valid for three years from the date of issue.

The tests are conducted online, from Monday to Friday (AEST).
The test comprises two dialogues; each worth 45 marks. In order to pass the test, a candidate needs to secure at least 29 marks in both dialogues, and an overall score of 63 out of 90. Each test dialogue is based on the conversation between a native English Speaker and a LOTE speaker. Each dialogue is approximately 300 words, half in English and half in the LOTE.
Overseas candidates can also appear for the test easily, as the whole thing is conducted online.
Test results are given as:
- Pass: 63 or higher (out of 90)
- Marginal fail: between 58 and 62.5 (out of 90)
- Clear fail: less than 58 (out of 90)
It is exceptionally vital to prepare well and clear the exam successfully. An excellent way to prepare for the NAATI test is to join a course or a program approved by NAATI in an Australian university. During the course or program, the student is guided and taught by qualified NAATI accredited professionals. This prepares the students for the most difficult challenges of the NAATI Examinations.
